Caribana: August 2015
The inaugural Traveling Negus trip. A few of us got held up at the border but that's a story for another time... Due to some buddy pass mishaps and a couple flakes Jason was left alone with five women. He was our self-proclaimed bodyguard for the weekend and we referred to each other as his sister wives. We had NO IDEA what we were doing and kept walking in people's mas bands that we did not belong in. This was definitely an experience...
Bermuda Cruise: June 2015
#USSWhoadies#Meezus30 #BermudaIsLit
#30ShadesofLIT. I wanted to spend my 30th birthday with my day ones... MAN DID WE KICK IT! Bermuda is a dream, so many beautiful people of color and I definitely recommend it for women travelers. The people there are so caring, thoughtful and genuine. You definitely feel safe in their space. The trip the group took on mopeds to watch the sunrise over the pink sand beach will be a memory I cherish for the rest of my life.
Iceland: January 2016
This was SUPPOSED to be a group trip but it turned into a couple's thing. Iceland is incredible. It's hard to believe all of these photos were taken within a few days of each other. The terrain was insane. It's only a four hour flight from the east coast so I definitely envision this being a staple "family trip" in the future. Seeing the Northern Lights in person is something everyone MUST experience.
YACHT WEEK: Greece August 2016
30+ people... 3 different yachts. So much fun! This trip was surreal. How many opportunities are you going to get to island hop in Greece on a yacht with your homies? Like never. We were definitely robbed for the "theme day" prize. Our ode to Coming to America was unmatched.
Medellin and Cartagena: June 2017
Planning a wedding wasn't gonna hold me back! The annual friendcation must go on! Colombia was a great wedding budget friendly compromise. We lived like kings and queens for next to nothing and I learned that my spanish is beyond low tier. One of the most meaningful aspects of the trip was visiting an area that used to be plagued with violence and crime that was transformed through the influence of hip-hop called Comuna 13. It was so rewarding to see how the black culture made such a positive and transformative impact. In the states we are conditioned to believe the exact opposite.
That one time we spent our mini-moon in a tree house in Seattle. Word to Bri for these phenomenal pics!
We decided to hit up Bangkok and Phuket. Thailand was everything. The Phi Phi Islands 100% lived up to the hype. The food was perfection, the people were wonderful and the “ping pong” show is def a must see! ;-)
I was peer pressured into heading back to Europe, Italy in particular, but it ended up being a great time. There were over 40 of us and this go round I opted to let people pick their own day trips so that everyone could explore Italy on their own terms. The Amalfi Coast, Venice, Milan, Florence, Capri, Cinque Terre, and Pisa were all visited with Rome being our base city. The wine, the pizza, the gelato, and the views all lived up to the hype!
Winter trips are severely underrated. It was so fun to play around in the snow, fall countless times on the slopes and see the southern negus’ first reaction to actual snow. This was the quietest goodbye negus dinner we’ve EVER had, for reasons I will not disclose…
This was a wellness break. With the pon de replay still in full force we had to go somewhere that weren’t the walls of our home for sanity’s sake… What originally was supposed to be a trip for two turned into a bestie’s couple trip and it was so hard to part ways after this extended weekend in the rainforest.
We quarantined for 14 days and took a COVID test to spend MLK weekend in a ‘mansion in WisCANsin’ (c) T-Pain. We did a LOT of junebug challenges, made smores, had a snowball fight, but most importantly we were together.
COVID hated in 2020 but we weren’t letting it keep us from Morocco in 2021. This was the first trip that EVERYONE was on the SAME flight to and from Marrakech... All 38 of us. Because there were NO OTHER flight options. It was truly a risk to travel internationally during a panorama but I’m happy to report that no COVID was contracted during this trip.
